Synopsis

Nazim Hikmet, a prominent communist poet, spent 17 years in Turkish prisons before fleeing to the Soviet Union, believing it to be a land of promise. However, he found himself disillusioned by the realities of Soviet life. The Turkish word "hasret," meaning longing, became significant to his adopted daughter, symbolizing his deep sense of loss. Hikmet died in Moscow, where he was largely forgotten. His story gains relevance during the 2018 referendum in Istanbul, reflecting ongoing themes of nostalgia and disillusionment.
