Synopsis

Captain Nándor Andrásovits steers a boat filled with nine hundred Slovak and Austrian Jews down the Danube River in 1939. They seek safety and hope to reach the Black Sea and Palestine. The film uses Andrásovits's amateur footage to show the daily lives of the passengers as they pray, sleep, and celebrate marriages. The narrative shifts to a reverse exodus, where Bessarabian Germans flee to the Third Reich amid the Soviet invasion of Bessarabia.
