Synopsis
Bill Basch stands in front of the remnants of his childhood home in Hungary, reflecting on the events of 1944. As Nazi Germany occupied Hungary, Basch and four other Jewish survivors recount their experiences during the Holocaust. The documentary features archival footage and interviews with survivors, including Irene Zisblatt and Renée Firestone, as they revisit the sites of their deportation to Auschwitz. U.S. soldiers who liberated the camps also share their perspectives. The film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 1999.
