Ma Aye Kaung lives in central Myanmar, where she faces the challenges of growing up under a military government. At thirteen, she tends to a herd of goats after starting child labor at nine. Her father’s alcoholism leaves the family without support. Although primary education is free, Ma Aye Kaung has not attended school. As Myanmar undergoes political transition, girls like her continue to lack access to education.
