Synopsis

In September 2009, the demand for mobile phones drives the exploitation of coltan, a mineral essential for modern electronics, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Armed militias control mining operations, often forcing children to extract coltan under perilous conditions. This exploitation not only jeopardizes the lives of miners but also threatens the survival of endangered species, including the mountain gorilla. The situation highlights the ethical dilemmas surrounding technology consumption and its impact on human rights and environmental conservation in central Africa.
