Synopsis

On February 27, 1933, the Reichstag building in Berlin burns, with Marinus van der Lubbe found inside. Adolf Hitler quickly labels the fire a communist conspiracy, leading to the arrest of over one hundred thousand communists and their supporters. Many are sent to the first Nazi concentration camps. By March, Hitler consolidates his power. Van der Lubbe's trial begins on September 21 in Leipzig, broadcast on the radio. He is sentenced to death on December 23, while his co-defendants are acquitted, marking a key moment in Nazi Germany's rise.
