Synopsis

In December 2008, the village of Wuda lies precariously between the Yellow River and the Gobi Desert, facing the dire consequences of coal fires burning beneath the earth. These fires emit as much CO2 as all the cars in Germany, highlighting the severe pollution problem in the area. As China's demand for coal rises, safety takes a backseat to speed, leading to unstable mining conditions. Villagers express their concerns, noting that the pollution is overwhelming, yet it seems to go unnoticed by authorities. The documentary sheds light on the environmental and health impacts of coal mining in Wuda, illustrating the urgent need for change in a region heavily reliant on coal.
