Synopsis
Daniel Hoek recalls his life in Ethiopia after the abandonment by his Dutch father, Joop Hoek. Joop reflects on his own childhood and the absence of his Dutch-Indonesian father. The Bastard presents their intertwined narratives, revealing how these separations shaped their choices and lives. Directed by Floris-Jan van Luyn, the documentary includes Daniel’s descent into crime and Joop’s attempts to make sense of his past. The film runs for 85 minutes and was released in 2018.
