Synopsis

Thousands of Syrian and Afghan refugees have been camped at Budapest's Scaletta station for weeks, having crawled under and over a razor wire fence at Hungary's southern border to reach Europe. In August alone, 50,000 migrants arrived in Hungary, many hoping to travel onwards to Germany. However, leaving Hungary proves difficult. After overwhelming police and boarding trains to Vienna and Munich, Hungarian authorities evacuated the station and canceled all trains to Austria and Germany. This decision sparked protests from migrants who had their hopes raised by relaxed controls just days earlier. Amidst the chaos, German Chancellor Angela Merkel emphasizes that the world is watching as Europe faces the largest migrant influx in a generation. The situation at the station remains tense, with migrants determined to reach Germany despite police restrictions and rising frustrations.
