Mediha Ibrahim Alhamad was just 10 years old when she and her family were kidnapped during the Sinjar massacre in northern Iraq in 2014. Sold into sexual slavery by Islamic State fighters, she endured years of trauma. After her release, Alhamad met filmmaker Hasan Oswald in a camp for internally displaced people in Iraqi Kurdistan. With a camera gifted by Oswald, she documented her family's story and her struggles, resulting in the documentary Mediha, which premiered at Doc NYC on November 12, 2023.
