Mediha is a documentary about Mediha Ibrahim Alhamad, who was kidnapped during the Sinjar massacre in 2014 when she was just 10 years old. The film, written and directed by Hasan Oswald, captures Alhamad's experience of being sold into sexual slavery by Islamic State fighters. Much of the footage is filmed by Alhamad herself, providing a personal perspective on her family's story and the aftermath of her captivity. After her release, Alhamad lived in a camp for internally displaced people in Iraqi Kurdistan. In 2019, she met filmmaker Hasan Oswald, who provided her with a film camera. Through this medium, Alhamad documented her life and the struggles she faced post-captivity. The documentary had its world premiere on November 12, 2023, at Doc NYC in New York City, where it won the Grand Jury Prize.
