Synopsis

Idi Amin Dada, born in Cabaco, Uganda, joins the British colonial army in 1946 as part of the Kings African Rifles. He quickly gains a reputation for brutality, torturing individuals during interrogations. Despite this, he rises to the rank of major-general and leads a violent attack against the king of Buganda in 1966, resulting in hundreds of deaths and the king fleeing into exile. On January 25, 1971, Amin stages a coup against Prime Minister Milton Obote while Obote attends a conference in Singapore. Initially, Amin's rule is marked by relative restraint, but by 1972, he orders massacres driven by ethnic and political motives. His eccentric behavior includes adopting grandiose titles such as 'His Excellency President for Life' and 'Liberator from the British Empire.' Amin's regime is characterized by extreme violence, leading to a significant death toll in Uganda.
