Synopsis
Martynka Wawrzyniak traveled to Poland in August 2017 to collect soil for a public art project in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The project, titled Ziemia, features a ceramic orb placed in McGolrick Park, set to be unveiled in June 2018. The orb is crafted from clay sourced locally and soils contributed by community members, representing their identities. Wawrzyniak spent two years engaging with residents, including Polish seniors and undocumented immigrants, who were unable to gather soil themselves. The project received support from The Polish Cultural Institute in New York.
