Synopsis
In Jeju Province, South Korea, the haenyeo, or "women of the sea," have been diving without air tanks for over 1,000 years. These skilled divers harvest seaweed and shellfish from depths of 10 to 20 meters, often working 7 to 8 hours a day without fresh water. The community is stratified into three tiers based on breath-holding ability, with tragic consequences for those who push their limits. This documentary chronicles the lives of haenyeo in Udo, highlighting their resilience and the challenges they face in a demanding tradition.
