Synopsis

In Tepoztlan, Mexico, the newly elected mayor expresses his disdain for a golf resort project that threatens the village's resources. Foreign investors plan to build a country club, 1,500 vacation chalets, and various commercial developments. Residents, who still speak the indigenous language of Nahual, fear that the maintenance of the golf course will deplete vital farming water and contaminate local aquifers with pesticides. The mayor's blunt statement, “We don’t play that sport here,” reflects the community's resistance to globalization.
