Synopsis

In the Hill Tracts along the Bangladesh/Myanmar border, the Marma people face challenges to their identity and territory. Under the influence of a symbolic monarchy and the Bangladeshi state, they confront climate migration that threatens their ancestral lands. To Be a Marma features various community members who strive to preserve their culture through religion, music, and land ownership. Produced by Farhana Hoque, the film reflects her long-term collaboration with the Marma community.
