Synopsis

In Black Bear Valley, Heilongjiang, loggers work through severe winter conditions to harvest timber. Using hand tools, sleds, and horses, they transport large trees down steep slopes. Living in makeshift cabins, these lumberjacks face dangers that include injury and death. The film documents their cultural practices, such as rituals to appease mountain gods, while addressing the environmental impact of deforestation linked to their traditional methods. Concerns about sustainability and ecological consequences emerge throughout their winter expeditions.
