In a cramped apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Angulo family lives in isolation. For fourteen years, Oscar Angulo restricts his seven children-six sons and one daughter-to their home, where they learn about the world through films. They recreate scenes from their favorite movies using homemade props. Their lives shift dramatically when Mukunda, at age 15, ventures outside in January 2010. This act of defiance leads the brothers to gradually explore Manhattan and confront life beyond their apartment walls.
