Synopsis

The dalits are India's outcasts, condemned from birth by a rigid caste system. They endure violence and discrimination, living in constant fear of arson and beatings from social superiors who seek to maintain their caste privileges. As the poorest of India's poor, the untouchables find themselves in a power struggle within India's Hindu heartland. Many dalits, feeling powerless and under attack, turn to Communist guerrillas for assistance. This desperate search for help highlights the ongoing battles faced by the dalits, who are caught in a cycle of poverty and oppression.
