Queen Maria Anna of Austria's tragic life is reimagined through a meticulous adaptation of Diego Velázquez's 1652 painting, created using one of the world's only two remaining Alexeïeff-Parker pinscreens. Directed by Michèle Lemieux, the 12-minute animated film explores the complexities of Maria Anna's existence, marked by her marriage to her uncle, Philip IV of Spain, and the burdens of a lineage fraught with incest. The film combines sound textures and stark lighting to reflect on memory, art, and the historical role of women.
