Synopsis

Alexey Kilin stands in the Amur Region of Russia, waiting for his ex-wife Agripina and their son Demyan after 13 years apart. His family, Old Believers from South America, fled Soviet power generations ago. Agripina arrives but decides to remain in the unfamiliar city of Svobodny, meaning "free" in Russian, rather than return to Brazil. The film covers their attempts to reunite and the challenges they face in a new homeland.
