Synopsis

Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island, features vast wilderness characterized by volcanic mountain ranges, pristine lakes, and dense forests. This diverse landscape supports a rich array of flora and fauna, thriving in its unique climatic conditions. Colonized by Japanese settlers only 150 years ago, Hokkaido also hosts agricultural practices, some of which align with the sustainable traditions of the Ainu, the island's indigenous people. Efforts are underway to preserve the Ainu's endangered culture amidst the challenges of modernization and environmental change.
