Synopsis
The Great Post Road, also known as De Groote Postweg or Jalan Raya Pos, spans a thousand kilometers across Java, Indonesia. Constructed in the early 19th century under Dutch Governor General Herman Willem Daendels, the road was built using forced labor, resulting in the deaths of thousands of Indonesian workers. Pramoedya Ananta Toer, a prominent Indonesian author and former political prisoner, reflects on the road's historical significance through an essay commissioned by director Bernie IJdis. The film explores the connections between Indonesia's past and present, highlighting ongoing struggles for freedom and justice.
