Synopsis
In 1944, the Memphis Belle became a symbol of the air war in Europe. The Cold Blue features restored footage from the original documentary by William Wyler, using 90 hours of raw material found in the US National Archives. Director Erik Nelson enhanced the visuals with modern techniques. The film includes narration from surviving veterans of the 8th Air Force, sharing their experiences as B-17 pilots. It premiered at the 2018 AFI Docs and later aired on HBO.
