Pinar Öğrenci presents a narrative rooted in the Armenian genocide, a historical event still disputed by the Turkish state. Using a combination of archival materials and contemporary footage, the film illustrates the lasting impact of this tragedy on the Armenian people. Inspired by Stefan Zweig’s novella, which depicts chess as a means of survival against fascism, The Avalanche connects personal memories with the broader historical context of the region. The documentary runs for 60 minutes and was released in 2023.
