Synopsis

John Hurt narrates the flow of the Thames as it moves from London to the sea in the 1986 documentary Thames Film. The narration includes readings from old manuscripts, books, and news articles. Poet T.S. Eliot provides posthumous narration from his work, The Dry Salvages, part of Four Quartets. The film juxtaposes contemporary footage with engravings, paintings, and archival film, including Pieter Breughel the Elder's "The Triumph of Death," created around 1562 and housed in the Prado Museum.
