Sukumar Ray

Synopsis

Soumitra Chatterjee narrates the life of Sukumar Ray, a Bengali poet and playwright, in a 1987 documentary directed by his son, Satyajit Ray. The film features Sukumar Ray's drawings from children's books like Abol Tabol and HaJaBaRaLa, alongside performances by Utpal Dutt and Chatterjee himself. It details Ray's college days in London, his involvement with the Brahmo Samaj, and the family's efforts to sustain the magazine Sandesh after the death of Sukumar's father, Upendrakishore Ray. The documentary concludes with Sukumar Ray's death from Leishmaniasis on September 10, 1923.
