Synopsis
On the 15th day of the 2nd lunar month, the Hakka people of Western Fujian, China, celebrate the Seedlings Protection Rite. Villagers gather fresh bamboo leaves to craft massive rice dumplings, each weighing 120 kilograms, alongside tens of thousands of smaller dumplings. The event honors Shennong, the God of Grains. Participants carry his statue and the large dumplings through the streets, accompanied by flower cars and children dressed as ancient heroes. This rite marks the awakening of farmland and the start of a new agricultural cycle.
