Synopsis

Campi Flegrei, a 20-kilometer-wide volcanic caldera located north of Naples, is one of the most active and potentially dangerous volcanic regions in the world. Despite not erupting since 1538, it has exhibited concerning signs of activity since the 1970s. The densely populated area of Pozzuoli, with its rich history dating back to Greek settlements, faces the constant threat of a catastrophic explosion. Nearby, the Marsili volcano, part of the Tyrrhenian volcanic arc, poses additional risks, including the potential for a massive tsunami affecting millions in the Mediterranean.
