Synopsis

William Notman, a pioneering Canadian photographer, established his first studio in Montreal in the late 1850s, during a time when photography was still emerging as an art form. Within five years, he gained recognition as Photographer to the Queen. Notman expanded the boundaries of portraiture by using props and composite techniques, leveraging his artistic training to document the people and landscapes of Canada. His work played a significant role in shaping the visual history of the nation. Directed by Albert Kish, this short film runs for 29 minutes.
