Synopsis
Jani, a 24-year-old from a small town in Western Ukraine, receives a draft call from the Ukrainian National Guard. His father passed away five years ago, leaving him to navigate life with his mother, Erzsike, who is 45. Rather than evade military service like many of his peers, Jani chooses to fight in a conflict 1,500 kilometers away. The documentary captures his coming-of-age experience during nine months of military service and the months following his discharge, using a mix of cinema verité and mobile footage.
