Synopsis

Lusatian villages, home to the Sorbian culture, have faced nearly a century of coal mining, resulting in the disappearance of 136 villages since 1924. The documentary details the sub-bituminous coal mining process, from tree cutting to the renaturation of open-pit mines. A pond, relocated to house thousands of European fire-bellied toads (Bombina bombina), symbolizes the lost communities.
