My Father's War

Synopsis

Peter Hein, a Jewish toddler in the Netherlands during the 1940s, faces the constant threat of deportation. Separated from his parents, he moves from one hiding place to another, evading capture. He feigns scarlet fever to escape a Nazi raid and endures injuries from bombings. Meanwhile, his parents undertake dangerous escapes as their locations are betrayed by collaborators. When the war ends, Peter struggles to recognize his parents, recalling, “I just saw a strange man with long black hair and a little woman who was crying.”
