My Beautiful Stutter

Synopsis

At The Stuttering Association for the Young (SAY) in New York City, five children aged 9 to 18 confront their struggles with stuttering. They share experiences of bullying and societal stigma while participating in an interactive arts-based program. Over the course of a year, the film captures their transformations as they face despair and the pressure to conform to expectations of fluency. Some participants grapple with suicidal thoughts, while others feel defeated by past attempts at fluency training. The documentary emphasizes the acceptance of stuttering and the strength found in community support.
