Synopsis

In Halifax, a group of Black students at a predominantly white high school confronts daily racism, including derogatory graffiti and the exclusion of Black history from their education. To combat these challenges, they establish a Cultural Awareness Youth Group aimed at fostering pride and self-esteem through educational and cultural initiatives. With guidance from mentors, the students explore their rich heritage and identify strategies for enacting positive change within their school and community. Directed by Sylvia Hamilton, "Speak It! From the Heart of Black Nova Scotia" was released in 2017.
