Motherland

Synopsis

Svetlana mourns her son, who died while serving in the Belarusian military. She seeks to expose the violence and abuse within the armed forces. Meanwhile, a group of friends from the techno underground faces the threat of conscription as protests erupt against the re-election of dictator-president Aleksandr Lukashenko in 2020. These protests, fueled by discontent, lead to a harsh crackdown from the regime. The film captures the clash between youthful defiance and the oppressive political climate in Belarus.
