Synopsis
Maria Sibylla Merian, a German artist born in 1647, dedicated her life to the study of insects. Her work laid the foundations of entomology. In Metamorphosis, filmmaker Pim Zwier presents her significant contributions, particularly her detailed observations of caterpillars transforming into butterflies. Merian's prints and engravings captured this process, marking her as the first to depict insects alongside the plants they inhabit. The documentary runs for 98 minutes and offers a unique perspective on her artistic legacy.
