Synopsis

Jian and Qiong prepare for their wedding in a village in southwest China. The marriage ritual involves six distinct stages, including proposals, negotiations, and engagement. A marriage broker oversees the complex discussions between Jian and Qiong, as well as another couple, Yu and Zhao. Daily life in the village centers around manual labor, with men working the fields and women managing household tasks. The film concludes with a wedding celebration, where the bride is carried to her new home in a decorated palanquin.
