Mabel Stark joined the circus in 1911, defying expectations as the first female tiger trainer. Raised in poverty in Kentucky, she earned a prominent place in the Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey shows over a 57-year career. Stark survived multiple maulings and marriages, forming deep bonds with up to 20 tigers without the use of a whip. Her life ended tragically near Jungleland in Thousand Oaks, California. Former performers and historian Janet Davis recount her legacy, with Mabel's own words narrated by Melissa Leo.
