Synopsis
A five-year period in the Roman Empire required public administrators to undergo purification and repentance, a concept revisited in the context of Latvia's KGB archives.
Synopsis
A decision by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia in May 2018 allowed access to KGB archives. “Lustrum” connects this event to a historical principle of Roman governance where public administrators undertook a purification process every five years. The film questions the absence of lustration in Latvia during the 1990s. It considers whether this gap in accountability poses risks to the future of the state.
