Synopsis

Imastu and Karula are two boarding homes in Estonia that housed children and young people with mental and physical disabilities at the end of the 1980s. Imastu cared for 300 children, while Karula accommodated 160. The residents range from toddlers to teenagers, some able to speak and walk, while others are unable to do so. Many of these children seek love and care, existing in a society that has largely ignored their presence for decades.
