Kurd Control - Turkey
Synopsis
In April 2003, abandoned Kurdish homes in East Turkey reflect the tragedy of forced evacuations.
Synopsis
In April 2003, the remnants of Kurdish homes in East Turkey stand abandoned, a stark reminder of the forced evacuations that occurred between 1992 and 1996. The Turkish Government evacuated over 3000 villages, claiming national security as the reason. Villagers faced a grim choice: either become village guards and fight against their own communities or leave their homes behind. Many families lost everything, as their homes were razed without any compensation. This tragic chapter highlights the severe impact of government policies on the lives of the villagers in the region, leaving a lasting scar on the landscape and the people of South-East Turkey.
