Synopsis
On the Japanese island of Sado, the Kodo group trains at Kodo village, where it originated in the early 1970s. The documentary captures the Kodo drummers during their 1998-99 "One Earth" tour. With 42 members, including 20 performers, the group practices for four months each year, followed by eight months of touring. Leading player Ryutaro Kaneko states, "To beat taiko is to face yourself," reflecting the group's philosophy of merging mind, body, and spirit through the art of drumming.
