Timothy Treadwell spent thirteen summers in Katmai National Park, Alaska, living among grizzly bears. He filmed over 100 hours of footage documenting his interactions with the animals and his efforts to protect them. On October 5, 2003, Treadwell and his girlfriend, Amie Huguenard, were killed by a bear after remaining in the park later than usual. Werner Herzog's documentary includes interviews with Treadwell's friends, family, and bear experts, discussing the risks of his close contact with wildlife and the events leading to their deaths.
