Director Gaylene Preston gathers firsthand accounts from survivors, including poet Lauris Edmond and a student from Greenmeadows Seminary. The documentary features newsreel footage that captures the extensive damage. Earthquake received a nomination for Best Popular Documentary at the 2006 Qantas TV Awards and won best sound at the NZ Screen Awards.
