Synopsis
Two senior members of the Mapai party faced corruption allegations in 1977, leading to one’s suicide and the other’s imprisonment.
Synopsis
On a wintry day in January 1977, Israel's minister of construction, Avraham Offer, took his own life on Tel Baruch beach in Tel Aviv. His death followed a corruption scandal involving Offer and Asher Yadlin, the designated governor of the Bank of Israel. Investigative journalist Yigal Laviv uncovered their alleged acceptance of bribes in real estate deals. Police officer Biniamin Ziggel and attorney general Aharon Barack initiated an investigation that led to Yadlin's imprisonment and the end of Mapai's three-decade rule in Israel.
