Fankuai, a village in Xuanhan County, Sichuan Province, relies on the Qianhe River for transportation. The only access to the town of Bailixia is by boat, as the area lacks roads and electricity. With the construction of a new road, the boatman and his family face uncertain futures and difficult choices about their livelihoods.
