Damiana Kryygi

Synopsis

In 1896, three-year-old Damiana survives a massacre in the jungles of Paraguay. Captured by white settlers, she is renamed and becomes a subject for anthropologists at the La Plata Museum of Natural Sciences in Argentina. By 1907, at 14, she is committed to a mental institution, where she is photographed shortly before dying from tuberculosis. A century later, an anthropology student finds part of her remains in La Plata, with her head later discovered at Charite Hospital in Berlin.
