Synopsis

In April 2008, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) faces a devastating humanitarian crisis as every month, another 45,000 people are killed in a conflict that was supposed to have ended five years ago. Despite a ceasefire agreement, violence continues to plague the region, leaving the DRC as one of the world's most dangerous and isolated places. At the Cheverie refugee camp, 5,500 families struggle with inadequate resources, sharing a single tap and lacking basic sanitation facilities. One 18-year-old expresses despair, stating, 'We live like apes. Our future is to die.' The ongoing presence of militias in the countryside exacerbates the situation, leading to rampant violence against civilians and a dire living environment for those displaced by the conflict.
