Peatlands bind more carbon than forests, making them crucial for climate protection. In Germany, nearly all natural peatlands have been drained, leading to significant greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, people worldwide are engaged in efforts to rewet these moors while ensuring they remain usable for agriculture. Dry peatlands in Germany contribute to seven percent of the country's total greenhouse gas emissions. The moorland areas in Germany span over 1.5 million hectares, but much of this land has been converted to pasture, compromising its ability to bind more carbon. The documentary highlights the urgent need for restoration and sustainable management of peatlands to combat climate change.
